Journal “Karelo-Murmanskii krai” [“Karelo-Murmansk Region”], No.2 for 1930. The sub-heading reads: “Kraevedcheskii obshchestvenno-ekonomicheskii illiustrirovannyi zhurnal” [ “A Local History Socio-Economic Illustrated Journal”]. It was published between 1927-1935 (there were 95 issues in all) and printed in Leningrad. It was published by the Council of People’s Commissars for AKSSSR. On pages 5-7 of the journal there is an article by P. L’dova, entitled “Solovetskoe khoziaistvo i ego znachenie dlia Severa” [“The Solovetskii Economy and its Significance for the North”], about the economy and industry of the Solovetskii Special Purpose Camp. This copy belonged to A.A. Danilov. It is kept in the Kem’ Municipal Local History Museum “Pomor’e”. (Photo 19.08.2005).

Description of exhibitThe Cover is white, the print monochrome. The first page of the cover shows the title: “Karelo-Murmanskii krai” [“Karelo-Murmansk Region”] / “Kraevedcheskii obshchestvenno-ekonomicheskii illiustrirovannyi zhurnal” [ “A Local History Socio-Economic Illustrated Journal”]. In the centre of the Cover there is a black-and-white landscape photograph with the caption “Na Murmane. – Kil’dinskii zaliv. Foto A. Ritter.” [“In Murman. The Kil’din Gulf. Photo A. Ritter”]. At the bottom of the page, No.3 / 1930” is printed in two columns.

Detailed annotationA Local History Socio-Economic Illustrated Journal. It was published under its present name in the period 1927 to 1935. It was published by the Council of people’s Commissars for the Autonomous Regions of the USSR. The editorial board was situated in Leningrad, where the journal was also printed. Its predecessors were several journals published by the Board of the Murmansk Railway: “Vestnik Murmanskoi zheleznoi dorogi” [“Bulletin of the Murmansk Railway”] (1919-23), “Vestnik Murmana” [“Bulleting of Murman”] (1923-24), “Vestnik Karelo-Murmanskogo kraia” [“Bulletin of the Karelo-Murmansk Region”] (1924-1927). In the years 1927-1931, it was published 12 times a year; in 1932 – 8 times (January to November), in 1933 – 10 times, in 1934 – 8 times (Nos. 1/2 and 3/4 also in Finnish), in 1935 it was published 9 times. During the years 1927-1929 the journal “Vestnik Karelo-Murmanskogo kraia” was amalgamated with the journal amalgamated with the journal “Solovetskie ostrova” [ “Solovetskii Islands”], which published articles about USLON (The Administration of the Solovetskii Special Purpose Camps).
