DescriptionThis rubric is attached to illustrations of the totalitarian period that are not directly linked to political repression, i.e. objects, documents, photographs and artifacts referring to specific Soviet rituals and procedures that were meant to show the ceremonal side of social and political life: processions, public demonstrations, solemn assemblies, sports parades, documents on fundraising for the International Organisation for Supporting the Fighters of the Revolution (MOPR) or the Society for Assisting Defence and the Aircraft and Chemical Industries (OSOAVIAKhIM), formal meetings of the young pioneers etc. As a rule, objects of this kind are found in museum exhibitions designed to show "the period as such" or, as a counterpoint, in exhibitions on the terror and the Gulag. Materials relating to private life, the family, work or culture and not displaying specific features of totalitarianism do not belong to this rubric.
