The Museum of the Associated Corrective Colonies of the Main Directorate for the Execution of Punishment under the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Justice No 30 opened in February 2004 in the colony’s department for corrective and educational activities. The exhibition occupies about 50m 2 and is dedicated to the history of the camp, starting with the times of the Norilsk Camp and including the contemporary penal colony. It also presents portraits and biographies of former directors of the institution. The camp workers’ production is especially valued in the exhibition. Documentary and factographic material is provided by the collections of the Museum of History and Development of the Norilsk Industrial District. Objects from the following categories are of particular importance to the Museum: paintings and items made by the prisoners and ‘illegal’ objects confiscated from prisoners, such as knifes, playing-cards, chains, contraptions for the making of firearms, hand-made chessmen, crosses, radios etc. New exhibits are constantly being added to the collection.
