The Museum offers two permanent exhibitions, ‘History of Repression in Knyazhpogostsk District from the 1920s to the 1950s’ (since 30 October 2003) and ‘Special Settlement Schools’, on the history of education and health care at the special settlements. The permanent exhibitions include a panorama-installation explaining the construction of the railway line Kotlas-Vorkuta.
The Museum’s collection comprises more than 600 items, including an archive of documents on the history of Ust-Vymsk Camp, on the camp of the Northern Railway (Sevzheldorlag) and on the settlements of special settlers with 400 items. Among them are documents of the camp’s administration and production units, including a report of the United State Political Directorate (OGPU) on the number and living conditions of the ‘contingent’ of special settlers in the District, a schematic map of the timber depot of the Ust-Vymsk camp’, schematic maps of the special settlements in Knyazhpogostsk District. These maps were put together after extensive expeditions. The collection also includes physical objects, such as fragments of barracks with inscriptions by prisoners, items of everyday life, working tools. The majority of items were collected during school excursions in 1999-2004.
The Museum offers thematic excursions and history lectures for pupils.
